Winners of the Humber Renewable Business Awards - Community Project

The Judges said:
"There was great input here from a big chunk of the community, working with schools, businesses and volunteers.  The initiative is building on the town of Grimsby's green credentials.  It is commendable what the volunteers and everyone involved in the project have been doing"

What do we do?
The Benefits
Community Energy is a growing sector in the UK, with hundreds of organisations like ours, tens of millions invested by ordinary people, and megawatts of renewable energy generated.
We develop renewable energy projects in the local area.

We raise awareness of the benefits of locally owned community energy.

Local people and organisations invest to support their  community and receive a fair financial return.

Local ownership
Our organisation is owned and controlled by its members.  Local people can get involved in future developments.
Local energy
Our solar PV installations provide cheaper electricity to the host organisations - which are charities or social enterprises.
Renewables revolution
Grimsby is growing as famous for its offshore wind industries as it is already for food.   We offer a way for local people to support the low carbon revolution in a community-centred way.
We are members of Cooperatives UK.   They supported us to set up our organisation, and we have regular telephone support from our mentor to develop as a member owned and controlled community benefit society.
We are members of Community Energy England.   Through them, we can network and share ideas and resources with hundreds of other community energy organisations.
Grimsby Community Energy access support locally through e- Factor's Business Hive.   A great place to meet local business people, discuss what they do, and tell them about Grimsby Community Energy.
